$450/mo for a 1bed/1bath in the middle of town less than 6 blocks from where I work. Time to find some furniture. Craigslist here I come.
Wood floor in the main room! Expect much car-related and anime-related art prints
dat walk in closet tho
I really dig the floors. Not real wood in the kitchen, but it looks nice.

You’re lucky if you can get a bedroom for $700 here.

Congrats!

$1500 a one BR in DC/metro where I live.
![]() 04/20/2017 at 15:40 |

I get a whole house for $500 a month including a garage and half an acre (20 year agreement though).
![]() 04/20/2017 at 15:40 |
|
$450 a month? Damn. It’s $550 is the cheapest where I live. And you have next door access to drug dealers, hookers, and homicides :)
$1000 a month gives you better piece of mind.

Wichita. I pay $850/mo for a 1300 sq ft townhome two bedroom with half finished basement and attached garage. And that includes $15 pet rent!
![]() 04/20/2017 at 15:41 |
|
Holy shit you can find 3 bedroom houses for rent for that much where I live. They aren’t like fancy neighborhoods though.
![]() 04/20/2017 at 15:41 |
|
Not to make you feel worse, but that’s almost twice my mortgage
![]() 04/20/2017 at 15:41 |
|
There goes the neighborhood.
![]() 04/20/2017 at 15:43 |
|
He has access to a few of those things, and many homeless friends too!
![]() 04/20/2017 at 15:45 |

Where do you live?
(edit) Ahhh Wisconsin. I don’t feel bad in the slightest my man.
![]() 04/20/2017 at 15:46 |

The 1st 2 wouldn’t bother me the last one is a deal breaker
![]() 04/20/2017 at 15:48 |

Makes sense.
![]() 04/20/2017 at 15:48 |

Looks like a nice place. Enjoy.
![]() 04/20/2017 at 15:52 |

I can’t imagine living on either coast with how expensive housing is
![]() 04/20/2017 at 15:53 |

Congrats! Looks terrific!
![]() 04/20/2017 at 15:55 |
|
That’s what I’m wondering.
![]() 04/20/2017 at 15:57 |
|
In the Charlotte area, that would be a $700/mo
![]() 04/20/2017 at 15:59 |
|
You make it happen man. You get used to it. It is worth it to me.
![]() 04/20/2017 at 15:59 |
|
That is awesome! Damn, I pay $300 a month for a bed room (kind of half of an apartment, but not really)
![]() 04/20/2017 at 16:01 |
|
right?
At the very least $800 here for something iffy
![]() 04/20/2017 at 16:03 |
|
The first two compliment eachother exceptionally well.
May even be the same individual!
![]() 04/20/2017 at 16:04 |

That’s great price on a decent place. Last time I saw rent like that without rats and lice included, it was 1992.
![]() 04/20/2017 at 16:06 |
|
I was immediately thinking that exact same thing!!!
![]() 04/20/2017 at 16:17 |
|
450 bucks? Do you live in 1991? Regardless, congrats!
![]() 04/20/2017 at 16:17 |
|
Kansas, so basically yeah.
![]() 04/20/2017 at 16:18 |
|
pet rent.
rent-a-pet?
![]() 04/20/2017 at 16:18 |
|
Kansas is unreasonably cheap. People say I could make more somewhere else but... pshaw. You can live on peanuts around here.
![]() 04/20/2017 at 16:18 |

like a studio?
![]() 04/20/2017 at 16:19 |
|
Some damn hillbilly with a red TA parks down the street so it was long gone already
![]() 04/20/2017 at 16:19 |
|
Well, I pay more in property tax on a 1700 sqft. house on 1/5 an acre. Then there’s the mortgage and the train ticket.
![]() 04/20/2017 at 16:19 |
|
Next door access to drug dealers and hookers just sounds convenient.
![]() 04/20/2017 at 16:20 |
|
Plenty. There’s two blocks worth of street parking, 8 actual parking spots off street, and an empty grass/gravel field that we have permission to use as a parking lot.

No, I rent a room from a friends mom in her 2 bedroom apartment. But because she has all her furnishings I have just some of my crap in my room. It isn’t a permanent solution, but I can’t really afford to do anything else right now...
![]() 04/20/2017 at 16:33 |

Habitat ReStore for furniture. You can get some good stuff cheap.
![]() 04/20/2017 at 16:39 |

That’s actually awesome
![]() 04/20/2017 at 16:51 |

Just chiming in, my mortgage on a two bedroom is 2400$.
![]() 04/20/2017 at 17:08 |

I have a small 4br house at $2600. Did not put much down.
![]() 04/20/2017 at 17:09 |

Hey, BTDT. Completely approve. Home is where you’re happy, not where realtors tell you that you should be.
![]() 04/20/2017 at 17:12 |

Condo with no yard + 20% down. I hate California. Biggish condo though 1400 sq/ft and meticulous landscaping.
![]() 04/20/2017 at 17:18 |
|
3% down, full deck, fenced backyard. No garage. Probably not much more sq/ft that your condo. I like it here in the DC/metro area. Great for kids. The fed gov’t keeps things pretty stable. I admit that I don’t know if I will stay after my kids are grown.
Not to make it too serious, but as a black male there are just not that many places I felt comfortable raising a family. As a result, the list of places to live is really short.
We have a lot of hook ups in Cuba. Hoping to get down there to retire.

Congrats, looks like a solid find. Gotta love the housing prices in KS and MO. It wasn’t too long ago that I was rocking a 2 bed / 1.5 bath / 1 car garage townhome rental for $750/mo near the eastern edge of the KC metro. Now I’ve got a similar mortgage payment on a house that’s a full step above that in size, location, and neighborhood quality.

Any ikeas around? That’s a great way to outfit an apartment.
![]() 04/20/2017 at 17:57 |

At my last apartment (SF Bay Area) pet rent was $50 each. I smell an arbitrage opportunity?
Never mind, it’s just cat piss.
![]() 04/20/2017 at 18:01 |

Ha, you can’t get a storage locker for that in SF....
![]() 04/20/2017 at 18:01 |

More like a shit storage locker in SF...

I would go insane in Kansas.

Actually there is
![]() 04/20/2017 at 18:06 |

Well, glad you found a good place then. I generally feel safe where I am but I don’t really fit it (single parent/weirdo/etc). Mine will be done with high-school in the upcoming years, depending one where they move I’m picking up and taking off too. Be well and best wishes on your success!
![]() 04/20/2017 at 18:08 |

How is the parking situation?
![]() 04/20/2017 at 18:17 |
|
Same. If you want a private bathroom you might pay $1000, and full apartments start at a minimum of $1400

Lucky!!!! A studio where I live is 1750 a month. Hell my parking for both cars and both of the puppies are the same price as your rent!

Nice, that’d be a $1k a month apartment here in the northeast. CL is great for furniture...Just got a pub height table/chairs the other day in excellent condition for $80. TV’s too sometimes...but that’s hit or miss as people tend to overvalue that stuff. If you have a Habitat for Humanity store local I highly recommend it. I got a really nice office chair and a nightstand for $19 there last week.
Check with friends and family, it’s another way to get nice furniture on the cheap. My friends workmate just sold me a name brand couch, loveseat and ottoman for $500 that she paid $3k for. 5 years old, was stored for 3. I rarely buy new unless I’m looking for something specific.

1750... for a studio? The hell? Is the median wage in your city 100k a year?
![]() 04/20/2017 at 19:26 |
|
Rather good. It’s on a corner so there’s two streets’ worth of street parking, an alley that goes to an off-street 8-space parking lot, and an empty field we have permission to park in. Time to fill it with shitboxes.
![]() 04/20/2017 at 19:58 |
|
That’s a good way to get a few pieces of furniture for relatively cheap money.

I think you mean “highly educated and classy individual who also drives a TA ocassionally”
![]() 04/21/2017 at 00:52 |

Oh darn you’re right. That’s what I meant.

The median wage for the nicer buildings is 100K+ a year, and for the old crappy buildings it is 50K a year.
